I can spontaneously have an ice cream on a sunny day or attend a family BBQ without spiralling and worrying about how I can make up for it. I naturally chose nutritious food now without overthinking it and enjoy treats when I want them. I thought I would just be eating chocolate and pizza all day but it’s not like that at all.
I understand myself now, why I eat the way I do and certain behaviours I felt shame around, like binge eating, emotionally overeating and constantly thinking about my next meal. I know what’s behind this now and what was driving this. I cannot believe that I have got to the place where food doesn’t dictate my day. I have head space to focus on the things that used to bring me joy when I was younger, like music.
I now know what activates my binges and for me it's intense stress. I'm so grateful that they rarely happen anymore. At the start it was every single night, like a track pulling me back to the press for more chocolate, jellies and crisps. Nothing felt enough. I used to go to bed feeling sick from all the food consumed. After 3 months, I rarely binge now. It happens now and again when something triggers it but I can see it happening and know how to work through it and it’s not so emotionally charged. I have the tools now to support myself and things naturally return to a steady place without pushing it. I now see the food wasn’t the issue, it was my reaction to other things.
